Broadmead & Cabot Circus are the two major precincts within the city's central shopping district. The newer of the two is Cabot Circus which opened in September 2008. The Mall Cribbs Causeway, , is an out of town mall off junction 17 of the M5. This has a large John Lewis and Marks and Spencer as well as lots of other fashionable shops.
Bristol is the United Kingdom’s eighth most populous city (approximately 421, 000) and the most populated city in South West England, making it a core city in England. It received a Royal Charter in 1155 and was granted county status in 1373. From the 13th century, for half a millennium, it ranked amongst the top three English cities after London, alongside York and Norwich, until the rapid rise of Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester during the Industrial Revolution in the latter part of the 18th century.

Bristol (wal. Bryste, IPA /ˈbrɪstəl/) – miasto w południowo-zachodniej Anglii, położone przy ujściu rzeki Avon do Kanału Bristolskiego, 185 km na zachód od Londynu. Z populacją 421, 3 tys. mieszkańców (2008) Bristol zajmuje szóste miejsce w Anglii i dziewiąte w Wielkiej Brytanii. Formalnie stanowi on jednolitą jednostkę administracyjną i zarazem samodzielne hrabstwo ceremonialne. Miasto jest największym ośrodkiem regionu South West England. Do nadejścia rewolucji przemysłowej, przez trzy stulecia Bristol był drugim lub trzecim pod względem wielkości angielskim miastem. Podstawą zamożności mieszkańców był port, obecnie przeniesiony z centrum do ujścia Avonu. Miasto szczyci się ponad setką zabytków należących do klasy I, najstarsze pochodzą jeszcze ze średniowiecza. Bristol jest prężnym ośrodkiem kulturalnym, a także naukowym – dzięki swoim dwóm uniwersytetom. W mieście znajduje się najstarszy w Anglii nieprzerwanie działający teatr oraz najstarszy niemetropolitarny ogród zoologiczny. W XX wieku najważniejszą gałęzią produkcji w Bristolu stał się przemysł lotniczy. Miasto dysponuje też międzynarodowym portem lotniczym.
