Museo interessante, peccato per la grandezza complessiva

This small museum contains an interesting collection of contemporary artefacts including uniforms and equipment, photos, weapons, situation maps and some evocative contemporary newspapers and proclamations (including the obligatory ‘The civilian population is to evacuate the area immediately OR YOU WILL BE SHOT’ from the German Kommandantur). Most captions are in both Italian and English, although the proclamations are only in Italian. However, there is no attempt to provide a chronological overview of the landings and the subsequent four month struggle to retain and expand the beachhead in the face of determined German resistance. If you go there expecting answers to such questions as why the landings occurred and whether they achieved their aim, you will be disappointed. It’s still well worth a visit though if you’re in the area. Allow an hour or so.

A small museum full of great artifacts that clearly outlines the history of the Anzio invasion.

Well worth visiting

I visited the museum in September of 2011. The weather and location were just beautiful. The grounds were very well kept. The kind, humourous Italian man working at the museum does so on a volunteer basis, and has for many years because as a young lad, he actually helped American soldiers during WWII. It's a very small space, but contains quality material and artifacts. Plan for a half-day visit to the museum itself, and another hour or two for the surrounding area, pier, and lunch. Well worth the effort.
