Travel advices and warnings Palma de Mallorca
Tourism Palma de Mallorca (Majorcan Ciutat), capital of Majorca and of the Autonomous Community of the Balearics, is picturesquely situated on the Bahía de Palma, which reaches inland for some 20km/12. 5mi on the southwest coast of the island. This lively city is an important Mediterranean port, the economic and cultural center of the islands and the see of a bishop. It was the birthplace in 1235 of the famous mystic, philosopher and writer Ramón Llull (Raimundus Lullus). With its busy central area, its historic old town and the extensive beaches surrounding the whole of the bay, Palma is one of the most popular holiday resorts in Spain and a good base from which to explore the rest of the island, since Majorca's whole road network is centered on the town.
Shopping Many people use some of their time on holidays to do some shopping. Palma de Mallorca is great place for that, as prices are notably lower here than in countries as the UK. When in Mallorca you should go on shopping to the center of Palma, the main city, where you will find the most of the shops. The Plaza Juan Carlos I, next to the Cathedral, and the streets around are known to be the shopping area.
Shops usually open from 10. 00 in the morning and close at 01. 30, to open another time the evening from 17. 00 to 20. 00. However, big shops usually do not close for lunch and are open during all day. Zara is open untill 20. 30 in the evening and El Corte Ingles (one, if not the only, big commercial centres that operates in Spain) untill 21. 30.
Cultura The Spanish island of Majorca (or Mallorca) is located in the Mediterranean and is Spain's second largest island after the Canary Islands. In Majorca, there are plenty of languages spoken. Both Spanish and Catalan are spoken throughout the country, but most people on the island also speak very good English. Majorca played a prominent role in the Spanish Civil War and therefore has a lot of museums related to this time. Majorca also features lovely scenery, beaches, and rustic architecture. For low cost travel into Majorca, fly into Palma Majorca Airport (PMI) [Aeropuerto de Palma de Mallorca], the local international airport, located just eight km east of Palma. Your only option is to fly into Palma because it is the only airport on the island.
Sights Aside from the city's cathedral, which you cannot miss on your visit to the capital, there are many other sites worth a visit. . .
Banys Arabs - Arab Baths
If you want to take a glimpse at one of the few remaining arab buildings then take a look at the Banys Arabs. Here you'll find the stone baths which date back to the 10th century. They're set in a small courtyard and are accompanied by a citrus garden which makes for a very relaxing way to spend an hour or so.
Palma Carriage Ride
For those wishing to see the sights of Palma in a more relaxed fashion, why not hire one of Palma horse and carriages. As cars are not allowed in the old city, it's perhaps the only alternative to going on foot.
Basilica de Sant Francesc
At the Basilica de Sant Francesc you'll find gothic cloisters, a central well, gothic pillars, baroque altar, elaborately decorated chapels and the tomb of Ramon Llull, 13th century Mallorcan writer.

From wikipedia about Palma de Mallorca

Palma (, ; formerly Palma de Mallorca) is the major city and port on the island of Majorca and capital city of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands in Spain. The names Ciutat de Mallorca (English: City of Majorca) and Ciutat were used before the War of the Spanish Succession and are still used by people in Majorca. However, the official name was Mallorca, the same as the island. It is situated on the south coast of the island on the Bay of Palma. As of the 2009 census, the population of the city of Palma proper was 401, 270, and the population of the entire urban area was 517, 285, ranking as the twelfth largest urban area of Spain. Almost half of the total population of Majorca live in Palma. The Cabrera Archipelago, though widely separated from Palma proper, is administratively considered part of the municipality. Its airport, Son Sant Joan, serves over 22 million passengers each year. The Marivent Palace was offered by the city to the then Prince Juan Carlos I of Spain. The royals have since spent their summer holidays in Palma.
