First time setting in a hostel and it was great. Staff was friendly and the entire facility was clean and well taken care of. Would stay again..

This was my first time in a hostel and it was far better than staying in a hotel/motel by myself. I'm new at traveling and if I had thought it out better I would have gone to a grocery store and bought my own food and snacks. This hostel has two very spacious kitchens and on my last night one of the other guests shared some fresh baked almond meal chocolate chip cookies and almond milk with me. We had a great conversation chilling out in the basement until 1:00 AM.

Although it was freezing at night it was almost perfect inside. They provide bed sheets and a nice blanket that is heavier than any blanket I've seen at a hotel or motel. And since they hand them to you to put on you know they weren't left on from the person before you. There are also lamps, power outlets and USB charging ports at every bed.

In the main building there is a piano and two guitars. I went to an open mic one night of my stay and brushed up on a couple of songs beforehand. I also arrived before my check in time and they let me stash my luggage in a locked closet until I got back.

For security they give you a card that opens the outside doors as well as the doors to each floor. Then you have a pin pad combination for each dorm room. There were lockers on the floor I stayed in outside the dorm room with power outlets. Bring your own locks.

If you're going to Philly by yourself but don't want to feel like you're by yourself I highly recommend staying at this hostel. It's a great place to stay.

The hostel is very convenient to get to the historic sights from. It was clean, and while I stayed there they had a pumpkin carving contest. It was a fun way to socialize with the other guests. They also have free cereal and coffee in the morning. The first night I stayed, there was a woman who talked to herself ALL NIGHT. I thought that she was sleep talking, but at 5am she went to the bathroom, came back, and resumed talking to herself. I went down first thing in the morning to request a room change - either to a different dorm or I would pay to upgrade to a private. At first they told me to wait a bit to see if management would agree to evict her. But after an hour, I had enough and just took my luggage to their storage facility so that they could sort it out while sight seeing. The room I was moved to had friendly roommates, and once the Halloween party died down, it was perfectly quiet. It was kind of weird to have to make my own bed, but they are relatively comfortable for a hostel bed. The most petty observation I had was that the installed soap dispenser in the woman's shower is really high off the ground (close to 6 feet up), and some shorter women will have trouble reaching it.

Great situation. I visited almost everything just walking ! Staff is nice. Bed are comfy and I love the fact that bathroom is inside the bedroom and not in the corridor. Free cereals and milk on morning !
