Germans not welcome
I visit Netherlands frequently for nearly 50 years and always met kind and tolerant people, but last week I was a bit disappointed. On Sunday, around 8 p.m., I visited Parels in order to have dinner with my woman.
Last year the service was a bit short spoken, but this has been topped this year. Demanding the menu, in German, the waiter became reluctant and corrected, quite arrogant and cautionary "in English , please".
After chucking the menu on the table, he left, no ask for drinks and went inside ( we`ve been sitting outside). After 20 minutes without any attention I stepped inside - to my surprise, the responsible waiter stood bored to tears at the counter, guided by two colleagues. On my complaint he did not pay any attention to me, so I decided to leave without any consumption. The waiter thanked me for my rebuff, and his look showed me unmistakably, that he was happy about this.
I do not assume, that this is the regular service you offer, all other guests, mainly Dutch, looked satisfied. So the only conclusion is, that you do not want to serve Germans. Fortunately this is only negative incident I faced in Netherlands. Even in the most unpretentious restaurant they treat customers with a certain respect, not caring about gender, color or race.
I hope , that some German ( and non-Dutch) tourists, read this and heed my advice, not to visit Parels and wish, that you change your attitude for a better and more tolerant world

Best restaurant in Haarlem to my opinion. 29,50 for a 3-course menu. Food is magnificent. Super friendly staff.

Agreed with other reviews that it's a cool spot and the food is good BUT the price was too high for what you get.
