S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences is situated in a lush green sprawling Campus in Salt Lake. The Institute was established in the year 1986 by the Government of India under Department of Science and Technology.
The Institute is engaged in Research and Development in Basic Sciences, specifically in the area of physical sciences and related disciplines. Major Research Areas are Astrophysics & Cosmology, Chemical, Biological & Macro-Molecular Sciences,Theoretical Sciences etc.The Centre also offers a programme leading to PhD degree for residential scholars.
