You always get a good answer to any queries you may have not only on the sightseeing sites but on everything in general.
Sad! (15.10.2017 23:24)
July 2013...Sadly over the past couple of years, since my last review, Bolton town centre has become a desert of pawn shops, charity shops and pound shops and as the retail life of the town centre has declined the population have voted with their feet. and gone elsewhere. Consequently even the multiples are closing their shops and leaving and even on popular shopping days the Market place shopping centre is very quiet.

In addition to this the town centre, particularly Newport street, is now filled with groups of people, standing about and shouting at each other during the day, and lots of people I have spoken to find this intimidating and unpleasant.

The oasis in the middle of this is the Olympus fish restaurant.( which I have reviewed separatly) The open market is also about the only place worth visiting but unfortunately the councils previously aggressive parking policy has driven us away. Why risk an unreasonable fine when you can park for free at out of town shopping places like Middlebrook , or have sensible parking wardens like in Bury.

We were ticketed on the market whilst queueing at the ticket machine and the warden had absolutely no empathy for my husband who was obviously sick at the time and just told us to "go to the office"!

We put our concerns to a counsellor who seemed to be in complete denial, saying Bolton was "doing better" than other towns....I don't think he has seen Bury recently, which is thriving and a very pleasant place to visit.

My husband and I visited Bolton this week. It is only about 20 minutes from our home address, we just wanted a run out and a bit of shopping.
We found parking very easy, with the first hour and a half free.
We had a coffee and a good walk around.
The town hall is very impressive with a statue of a lion either side of the front door.
There was a lot of street cleaning going on and the place was very presentable.
The trees and hanging baskets looked very nice.
Some nice shops along with the usual town centre shops that you find everywhere.
We ended up in Debenhams which was on the way back to the car park.
We returned to our vehicle and discovered we had free parking, well that's a first and very welcomed.
At the end f the day Bolton is not the place of my dreams but a pleasant town to visit now and then.
I expected more than just a few leaflets (15.10.2017 23:24)
My wife & I called in for some ideas & found no staff & just a few racks of leaflets, not much better than a hotel foyer.
